Slide Design

It can be very tempting to use a “cool” colour scheme in your slides like the matrix style green text on a black background, but have you ever tried putting black on green in a slightly bright room, viewed from a distance? It doesn’t go well.

High contrast is what you want. Aim for something anyone can read from the very back of any room, no matter how far away they are.

Also keep colour blindness in mind. I’m not saying don’t use nice colous in your slides, but don’t make understanding the slide depend on colour. If you’re putting up charts or graphs, don’t rely on someone being able to distinguish every colour perfectly for the slide to make sense.

Generally I’d recommend keeping slides relatively simple to begin with, and you can experiment with different designs as you gain experience.
