Why Slides?

We’ve talked about structure. Now for the technical bit: slides. Why do I have slides up? Why does anyone?

The point of slides is twofold.

First, they remind you what you were talking about.. It’s really hard to stay on track for half an hour or more with nothing to prompt you on what’s next. Having slides up keeps you on track.

Second, they can illustrate what you’re saying. If you’re talking about something someone would see in a UI, show screenshots. If it’s something you’d see in a terminal, show terminal screenshots. There’s more you can put up there too.

But slides are easy to get wrong, and there are some things I’d recommend doing and not doing. A fair few of these are matters of opinion, and people may disagree, that’s fine. The following pages go through them.
