Then comes the body of the talk. This is your 80%, the bulk of your time and the opportunity to dive into your topic, tell people the details, and explain why the thing you’re talking about is interesting.

When you’re developing this part, keep your takeaways in mind. You’ll almost certainly have more content than just your takeaways, it would be a strange talk that only did three things in a whole thirty minutes, but hold the takeaways in view to make sure you actually cover them. I’ve reached the end of a deck before and thought, “You know what, I’ve completely missed one of my main points, the thing I actually want people to walk away with. I need to emphasise that.”

The body of your talk sits at the top of your time budget. That’s your 80%. Dive into it, get in there, and tell people the details.
