From Idea to Talk
Ideas
So you’re thinking, “What could I possibly talk about?” The answer is: it just has to be an idea. That’s all it needs to be.
The best place to start is something you’re genuinely interested in, something you’d bend your friend’s, colleague’s, or family’s ear about. Something you’ve experienced. If you spent six months fixing some horrible problem at work and learned a load along the way, that’s a talk. If you got really into IoT security, dug around in it, bought some kit and played with it, that’s a talk. You just need an idea of where to start.
One important point to note is, don’t be put off if someone else has already given talks on that topic. That’s completely fine. There’s no designated person per subject. All you need is your own experiences, something you’ve learned, worked on, or spent time with.
One thing I would recommend though is to choose something you’re interested in as the topic for your talk because there’s quite a lot of work involved as you can see from looking at the number of sections in this site! Don’t pick something that doesn’t interest you, especially once you’re accepted and have a ton of work to do. Pick something you actually want to talk about and you’ll have a much better time and enjoy it far more. But it all starts with an idea.
